Rise the Ancient Storm
His Majesty, Konstantin Baelion of Aleanmitore, King of Arrowal, the Eastern Quarter.
Konstantin was the third and last son of the old king. As such, he assumed he would not see the throne, and spent his youth preparing for the role of adviser, learning what he could about the gritty details of running a kingdom. He learned about trade and farming, about planning cities and constructing roads. His quiet, observant nature and kind heart made him popular with the lesser nobles and merchants, as well as with the various temples. His popularity, however, was severely strained after the death of his next-oldest brother- the murder was poorly covered up, and shadowy figures began to wonder whether Konstantin was as grief-stricken as he appeared, or merely attempting to divert suspicion. Those rumors wounded Konstantin, who truly loved his brothers and had nothing to do with the terrible crime. He withdrew from the public eye for two years, which proved to be a mistake. His retreat was viewed as proof of his supposed misdeeds, and the Council of Noblemen pressed for his arrest and trial. His father and remaining brother attempted to dissuade them, but Konstantin insisted that the complaint be met, and he was tried. As he had expected, there was no evidence against him, just rumor and spite, and he was acquitted. Unfortunately, it would do nothing to still the new wave of rumors after the passing of his father from heart failure and the death of his brother in a hunting accident. Reluctant, grieving, and untrusted, Konstantin took the throne six weeks before his twenty-sixth birthday. It took four years of constant struggle to regain his reputation among the nobles, and some among his people distrust him still. For all that, he has been an excellent ruler, fair and thoughtful, putting the needs of his people before anything else.
