Rise the Ancient Storm
A quiet young woman with ink-stained fingers and perpetually narrowed eyes, Sonja works in the Royal Library in Oswarth.
Sonja Tho’onna, at twenty four years old, is right where she wants to be. Her position as the King’s Scholar in Oswarth permits her the freedom to leave considerations like marriage far behind her. She has a comfortable job, a comfortable set of rooms in the palace itself, free access to all of the Royal Libraries, and never has to worry about where her next meal is coming from. She spends most of her days in the Histories room- the smallest room at the top of the tallest spire in the palace. She revels in the near-silence, surrounded by shelf after shelf of ancient documents, copying pages, delving into tales of kings long past, and learning all that she can. Her fingers are constantly smudged with ink, and there is often a similar streak on her cheek from tucking a not-quite-dry quill behind her ear. Her long, tightly curled hair is bound in a severe braid at the back of her head, but that doesn’t stop wild golden strands from falling into her perpetually-narrowed eyes. Her vision is not perfect, and after years of reading cramped and faded writing, the squint has become permanent and wrinkles around her grey eyes make her face look older than it should. While not unfriendly, Sonja tends to react with surprise, if not outright confusion, when she is addressed by anyone but the palace servant that tends her needs. While she is entirely comfortable in her world of cloth-bound books and high shelves, she really doesn’t know how to manage the busy, noisy, outside world, and does her best to avoid situations in which she might have to. Still, her gratitude to King Konstantin for her position makes her fiercely loyal, and she will do what he asks of her, even when it makes very little sense to her.
